Folders and sketches

Make a folder if you do not have one.

Get folders at the beginning of every class.

Fold paper in 4 sections for sketching. Use front and back.

Sketch for the first 15 minutes of class.

Sketch from observation, tutorials like blip TV, imagination, etc.

Keep sketches in your folder.

Go to Layer>Layer Styles, then to the effect you want.

Use the Magic Eraser Tool (click on the illustration below to enlarge it) shown on the Tool Palette, to erase large areas of the same color. For example, if you wanted to erase all the blue  in the background of this illustration, you could use the Magic Eraser. Just pick it, go to the blue color and click.

Practice selecting and erasing. 

Create a Photoshop document similar to the one below.

Select an area on a shape using the one of the selection tools_lasso, polygonal lasso, magnetic lasso.

Erase, recolor, etc. Select>Deselect.

Select an area using the Magic Wand Tool.

be sure you check Auto-Select Layer

1. Use the paint bucket to color the background dark green.

2. Make a new layer and place a fish custom shape on it. Color the fish yellow.

3. Add bevel and emboss to the fish.

4. Type the word Fish in Times 18 point type, colored white.

5. Move the word Fish below the custom shape of the fish.

1. Make a new layer and add a heart custom shape on it. Color the heart red. 

2. Add bevel and emboss and a yellow outer glow to the heart. 

3. Type the word Heart in Times 24 point type, colored pink.

4. Move the word Heart below the custom shape of the heart.

1. Make a new layer and add a butterfly custom shape on it.  

2. Add a pattern overlay to the butterfly. 

3. Type the word Butterfly in Times 30 point type, colored white.

4. Move the word Butterfly below the custom shape of the butterfly.

1. Make a new layer and add a sun custom shape on it. Color the sun orange. 

2. Add a 6 point yellow stroke to the sun. 

3. Type the word Sun in Times 24 point type, colored yellow.

4. Move the word Sun below the custom shape of the sun.

Use 18 point Arial typeface, colored light green, to type your name and today's date in the bottom left hand corner of the document. 

Assessment: 

1. Correct size and resolution (25 points)

2. Correct images on separate layers (15 points)

3. Correct layer styles applied (15 points)

4. Shapes on layers identified correctly (15 points)

5. Background colored with paint bucket tool correctly (15 points)

6. Name in correct color, typeface, and position (15 points)
