Describe file storage in memory cards and estimate the number of photographs a memory card can hold based on the resolution of the photographs and other factors. Use a scanner to create digital files. Determine appropriate resolutions for various applications such as printed and web media. Use file system folders to organize files. Your assignment is to create two different documents, each having 7 layers, with a different sized custom shape on each layer.

go to the finder 
open photoshop

go to window>workspace>Essentials or Design

go to file>new>name: type your name_custom shapes1

width: 10 inches (not pixels)

height: 5 inches

resolution: 100

color mode: rgb

background contents: white

click OK


Click on the Move Tool



be sure you check Auto-Select Layer























Go to the layers palette and click on the new layer icon



Click on the Custom Shape Tool






































Choose the icon circled in red with the Custom Shape Tool





Create a custom shape. Click, hold and drag in your document window. The shape you select is visible to the right of the word "Shape" in the Options Bar above.  Click on the downward facing triangle to choose other shapes.


Resize: Go to Edit>Free Transform and resize the custom shape. Click the check mark when you have what you want or the cancel button if it’s not what you want.

Move the shape using the Move Tool

Go to file>save as

Save onto the desktop or in your folder

Create and resize 7 custom shape layers using a different shape and a different color on each layer.

Type your name on one layer

Save your document into your folder

Should you create a new layer each time you create a custom shape?

First, review the information in Custom Shapes 1.

Assignment:


1. Create a document, 8 inches high by 8 inches wide,  resolution: 100


2. Create 6 different layers. Use the Custom Shape Tool.

Use this as your guide  custom shape tool



Use any colors and any shapes, but be sure they are all different shapes and colors.

3. Type your name on a new type layer

4. Be sure each shape is on its own individual layer



5. Resize all shapes so that they all are overlapping, or some are in front and some are behind. 


6. Rearrange the shape layers on the layers palette


7. Save as your name_custom shapes 2




Assessment: (20 points each)


1. Correct size and resolution


2. 6 layers, created as instructed


3. All layers composed of different colors and shapes. (10)
    Some shapes overlap. (10)

4. Name typed on one layer


5. File saved correctly
