Literacy 8_Guernica

You have completed LAW 6, which described the process of art criticism. By now, you should also have criticized (or critiqued) the painting Guernica and decided if it is good or bad, based on the art criticism theory called Emotionalism.

We are now going to use LAW standard 8 and an article about Guernica.

Standard 8 is:

Delineate and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is valid and the evidence is relevant and sufficient; identify false statements and fallacious reasoning.

What I Want You to Know:
I can trace an argument based upon the facts from the reading.
I can examine carefully the author’s claims in the text.
I can decide if the evidence from the reading is true and sufficient.
I can identify statements that are false and misleading.

Go to this link and read the article.

Write one sentence in your own words.

2 & 3. Scroll down to Guernica shows suffering people, animals, and buildings wrenched by violence and chaos and read about what the images represent. On the LAW 8 exam paper, write down (paraphrase) two of the bulleted points about the images.

4 & 5. Scroll down to Symbolism and interpretations, However, according to scholar Beverly Ray[6] the following list of interpretations reflects the general consensus of historians:

Pick two of her statements and state whether you agree or disagree with them. Explain why or why not, using two to three sentences.
