Use the paint bucket tool to put color in an area with a black outline or a flat color. You could change the blue or purple to other colors using the paint bucket tool since these areas are flat colors.
Use the Magic Wand Tool to select an area.
Click once inside an area with black outlines or a solid color.
Go inside the selected area and click and drag the gradient tool.
When you finish, go to Select>Deselect.
The two areas with photos were selected with the magic wand tool.
Then press delete to cut out an area for photos to be placed.
