the assignment (instructions, specifications and criteria): 

Create a traditional collage using magazine photos. Note: you will trace over part of this collage for use in a digital collage in Photoshop.

The collage should:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the safe and responsible use of art media and tools.
• Have 10-15 photos
• Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of design emphasis
• Show a strong center of interest

Create a personal emoticon and save it into your folder. You can use bot Custom Shapes and keyboard symbols.

open photoshop

go to window>workspace>Essentials or Design

go to file>new>name: type your name_emoticon

width: 5 inches (not pixels)

height: 5 inches

resolution: 300

color mode: rgb

background contents: white

click OK

Click on the Move Tool

be sure you check Auto-Select Layer

Go to the layers palette and click on the new layer icon

Click on the Custom Shape Tool

Choose the icon circled in red with the Custom Shape Tool

Create a custom shape. Click, hold and drag in your document window. The shape you select is visible to the right of the word "Shape" in the Options Bar above.  Click on the downward facing triangle to choose other shapes.

Resize: Go to Edit>Free Transform and resize the custom shape. Click the check mark when you have what you want or the cancel button if it’s not what you want.

Move the shape using the Move Tool

Go to file>save as

Save onto the desktop or in your folder

Create your emoticon

Save your document into your folder
